BeL2, short for Bitcoin-Elastos Layer 2, is an innovative technology that bridges the gap between Bitcoin's unparalleled security and the versatile world of smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps). It enables Bitcoin to seamlessly interact with other blockchains, execute complex contracts, and power a wide range of decentralized applications without compromising its foundational security.

Vision and Mission​

Our vision is to establish a new global financial system anchored by Bitcoin, akin to the historical Bretton Woods system but more robust and decentralized. We aim to position Bitcoin as the settlement layer (Native Bitcoin Settlement Layer) for the future of finance, much like gold was used in the past.

BeL2's mission is to:

  1. Enable seamless interaction between Bitcoin and other blockchains.
  2. Unlock new possibilities for smart contracts and decentralized applications that leverage Bitcoin's security and liquidity.
  3. Provide a secure and efficient way for Bitcoin holders to participate in DeFi activities without compromising the integrity of their assets.
  4. Create a more inclusive and accessible financial system that leverages the strengths of both Bitcoin and smart contract platforms.

BeL2 Architecture Overview​

The following diagram illustrates the high-level architecture of BeL2:

This diagram shows the connections between the Bitcoin network and EVM-compatible chains in the BeL2 system. The Arbitrator Network, which includes Arbitrator Nodes, is central to the architecture. It utilizes zkBTC Full Nodes for proof verification and generation, interacts with Bitcoin for transactions, and interfaces with smart contracts on EVM-compatible chains.
